The Avenger’s Superb Six – the 2011 Dodge Avenger
The 2011 Dodge Avenger is available with one of two engines, a 2.4-liter four-cylinder or a 3.6-liter V6. Normally, considerations of displacement are regulated to the conversations of gearheads, that is, customers don’t give a wit. The average consumer is much more interested in fuel economy than fuel-to-air ratios. But in the case of the Dodge Avenger, engines trump efficiency, for the engine is what determines whether the Avenger is an average option or a superb snag.Dodge engineers, chefs of cylinders, souped up the all-new Avenger. The suspension has been considerably refined and improved, and recalibrated steering ameliorates responsiveness. If you opt for the four-cylinder engine, however, all the efforts will be in vain. The four-cylinder is not awful, but is not particularly noteworthy. If cutting costs is high on your priority list, you would be better served by the competition. But if you are a staunch Dodge customer, you will love the V6. Boasting the highest power output in the class, the Pentastar powerplant puts muscle behind the Avenger’s distinctive facade of fury. The V6-equipped Dodge can dash to 60 mph in 7.0 seconds, a laudable performance for a family sedan.
The outgoing Dodge Avenger suffered from the rental car blues. Cheap, weak and chintzy, it saw far more parking garages than personal garages. The 2011 Avenger has received a much overdue makeover; fit-and-finish has been improved immensely. The Avenger is available in four trims: Express, Mainstreet, Lux, and Heat. The Express is something of a bland black-and-white photo, but step up to the Heat or Lux, and you’ll be swathed in color and character, i.e, you’ll have features galore.
However, a few of the Avenger’s faults persist. Cargo space and rear passenger space is smaller than the competition’s, and long-term reliability remains unsure. But we think the V6, and the accompanying 2011 Avenger, is worth a look.
