During the annual Toyota Sustainable Mobility Seminar in San Diego, California this week, Toyota brought in a handful of all-electric RAV4 EVs for us to tool around in, but there were some caveats: The route was decidedly highway-free; when it rained one afternoon, we were told it would be better to wait to drive the cars; and one journalist had a problem with his vehicle that made it sluggish. The biggest asterisk in the whole program, though, was that the RAV4 EVs we were testing are only a pale shadow of what the real RAV4 EVs will be like when Toyota releases them in the first quarter of 2012.

The Rage of the Fighting Bull – the 2011 Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera

The 2011 Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera introduces a new era of the Fighting Bull. Lamborghini, once obsessed with high-performance speed demons, is shifting to street-legal racecars. The Gallardo Superleggera LP570-4 coupe retains the absurd speed of its predecessors, but is targeted for the oval track and our hearts.
“LP570-4” is no mishmash of random characters; the moniker denotes important information about the Gallardo. LP refers to the engine’s positioning, called “longitudinale posteriore” in Italian, while 570 denotes the V10 engine’s power: 570 PS, which is equivalent to 552 hp. The suffix, 4, symbolizes the Gallardo’s standard all-wheel drive, which imparts 70% power to the rear wheels. Superleggera is Italian for “super light.” Thanks to carbon fiber implants, high-grade aluminum and polycarbonate windows, the Superleggera coupe weighs in at a scant 2,954 pounds, 154 less than the regular Gallardo.
Those are the numbers. Let us translate those statistics into emotion. Press the over-sized gas pedal, and the V10 emits a furious battle cry all the way up to 8,500 rpms. Equipped with launch control, the Gallardo rockets off the line at 5,500 rpms, rocketing to 62 mph in only 3.4 seconds. Thanks to stiffened bushings and dampers, and thicker anti-roll bars fore and aft, the Gallardo burns through corners with fearsome traction and control. 3-mode stability control allows the driver to regulate the insanity. If you weren’t an adrenaline junkie before driving the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4, you will be. It is an experience that can never be forgotten. Due to its brick-like suspension, the Gallardo makes a poor highway cruiser.
Comfort is sparse, and that is overstating the fact considerably. The few creature comforts granted to the two occupants are automatic dual-zone climate control, Alcantra upholstery, an AM/FM radio and rearview parking camera. If you prefer to mix comfort with performance, buy a Bentley.
If you want raging performance and nothing but, purchase the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera.

Lamborghini Gallardo Tricolore

2011 Lamborghini Gallardo Tricolore will be officially introduced on March 16 in Turin. The name “Tricolore” is symbol of the Italian flag, which decorates the car in the form of a three-colored stripe that stretches across the hood, the driver’s seat and the roof in a way that reminds of the LP550-2 Valentino Balboni edition. Other than the green, white and red stripe, the Gallardo Tricolore also sports carbon-fiber mirror caps and a white paint.
The Lamborghini Gallardo Tricolore will stand out with its white exterior paint and the Italian tricolor stripes from the front of the car to the rear. The trio of colored stripes appear also in the interior, specifically the driver’s seat. Lamborghini revealed any specification version Tricolore yet, but we expect to see the standard V10 engine with 560 HP, which is Bicolore version. As for performance numbers, they will probably be the same as 0 to 60 km / h in 3.7 seconds, 0-124 km / h in 11.8 seconds and a top speed of 201 mph.
